The Ranchmen's Club was created by an act of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in 1891, fourteen years before the creation of the province of Alberta in 1905. This building is its third home. The club is still based in this building today. It should not be confused with the Ranchman's Club, a country & western bar also located in Calgary.
The ornamentation may have been made by Royal Doulton, since decorations for the 1913 Calgary Herald building came from
Royal Doulton.
