A single spar cable stayed bridge with a glass glass deck that acts as a sundial. No wonder it's a Roadside America attraction.

Designed by by the world famous Santiago Calatrava, this unique bridge was built in 2004 as a pedestrian span across the Sacramento River as part of the Turtle Bay Park project. It cost $23,500,000, which was quite a sum for its time for a city to spend on a pedestrian bridge, but it's attraction has caused many visitors to stop in Redding just to walk across it, if nothing else.
A single white spar supports the cables that reach out over the rive, but the spar also serves as a sundial, casting its shadow on an arc of markers on the north bank. The shadow moves at the rate of about one foot per minute as the earth rotates. Since visitation is highest in the summer months the markers show Pacific Daylight Time. If you arrive after the sun is set you can still see the bridge as it is lighted at night.
