Mission San Diego de Alcala was the first Catholic Mission in California. Outside the Mission is a small alcove (on the left) with a bench or two and a staye of the Virgin Mary. Behind the statue, mosaic tile has been used to depict the aura surrounding the figure. On the cement walkway, there are also mosaic designs embedded.
