A monument by the south side of Hartford City Hall pays homage the group of men (there are no women's names on the monument) who left Massachusetts to establish a new colony in present day Connecticut.

Thomas Hooker was born on July 5, 1586 in Leicestershire, England. He was persecuted for his theological and social views and immigrated to Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629. As an advocate for universal Christian suffrage, his views were soon out of favor with the established church in Puritan Massachusetts. He and Rev. Samuel Stone led a group of about 100 followers to the present day Connecticut River Valley and, founded the present day City of Hartford.
A bronze plaque attached to a boulder has a double column of names and is inscribed:
