This trailhead is easy to get o from Lake Placid, with parking lots / wide shoulders along the highway (Rte 73) to accommodate hikers. Trail to Cascade and Porter Mountains, each one of the 46 High Peaks on south side of he road, Pitchoff is north.

Cascade, a Level 2 (on a scale of 1-7) and Porter, a Level 3 mountain share this same trail for 2.1 miles. The trail splits .3 miles from the summit of Cascade and .7 miles from the summit of Porter, so both peaks can be accomplished by an average fitness hiker in roughly 5 hours from start to finish, including ample time to soak in the view on each.
Pitchoff Mountain trailhead is on the other side of the road (Pitchoff is not one of the 46 highest peaks)
Look for the trail register just down the hill from the Trailhead, and make sure you sign in AND OUT, so nobody has to go looking for you.
