An elegant and slightly mysterious black and silky wedge. A panther or sphinx who have put their feet on the sloping terrain in front of DDH's stepped brick building. - This is the first impression one gets when meeting Kirsten Lockenwitz 'sculpture, Kalesa. Kalesa means "that which holds the precious" and you sense a spiritual aspect of the sculpture's own inscrutable form.

Kalesa is built up in layers held together in one solid, but at the same time seems to be about to slip out and run down the slope towards Viborg city. The sculpture is rotated relative to the DDH building and pointing down towards the city, and therefore there is a clear view of the sculpture from the building's windows. The sculpture's many cracks and breakage form independent forms which Kalesa alive and moving. And also the pedestrian's own motion relative to the forward flow through the sculpture: as one approaches or recedes, pulling Kalesa together to a column or spread out like a wedge on the road in solution.
