The Church of St.Peter in Great Totham is some 1km from the centre of the southern part of the village south-east along Hall Road. It is Grade II* listed having a chancel and nave of C13th or C14th build. The north aisle, vestry and organ chamber, south vestry and porch are C19th and there are other C19th restorations and a rebuilt bell-turret containing a ring of six bells. The walls are of flint rubble, puddingstone, freestone and oolite, whilst the roofs are red plain tiled with terracotta finials. The bell-turret has a shingle clad splay spire.
The tablet commemorating the fallen of the parish is mounted on the wall of the church just to the right inside the main entrance doorway from the south porch. It is of grey marble within a decorated brown marble surround. The mosaic decoration is of Celtic inspiration in blue and gold with a St.Peter's cross at each corner. The inscription reads:
To the Glory of God and in memory of
the men of this Parish who gave their
lives in the Great War. 1914-1918.
Charles Henry Ballard Frederick Cecil Harrington
Frederick Brittone Crumpen Frederick Jacques
Herbert Daniel Brockis Ernest George Lock
Frederick Carter Walter Newton
Claude Norman Champion de Crespigny Herbert Nunn
Henry George Crumpen Frank Redgewell
George Beckwith Dawson Alfred Sheppard
The plaque is placed immediately above the plaque remembering the fallen of WWII and the co-ordinates given are for the south porch.
