The pedestal bearing the bronze statue of a Burgundy winemaker treading the grapes stands over a fountain. It was created in 1852 by French sculptor Noël-Jules Girard (1816-1886) and presented at the Exposition Universelle of 1855. The statue was acquired by the State and erected in 1904, at Place François Rude in Dijon. It commemorates the worship of Burgundy wine.
