Inaugurated in 1878, the Sforza Castle Pinacoteca gallery displays over 230 artworks, which include masterpieces by Titian, Andrea Mantegna, Canaletto, Antonello da Messina, Pisanello, Vincenzo Foppa, Giovanni Bellini, Correggio, Bernardino Luini, Lorenzo Lotto, Tintoretto and others. The complete collection of the museum, enriched in the last two centuries by donations of illustrious citizens and collectors, now has more than 1500 artworks.
The Museum of Ancient Art is one of the most important collections of late-antiquity, medieval and renaissance sculpture in the north of Italy. The different frescoed rooms of the museum home to the armory, the tapestry room, some funerary monuments, the Rondanini Pietà and also two medieval portals.
The "Sala dell'Asse", designed and frescoed by Leonardo Da Vinci called to Milan by Lodovico il Moro, is one of the most beautiful and important rooms of the museum and represents the Sforza period of Milan.
