It was emperor Maximian that, at the end of the III century A.D., decided to enlarge the city walls, in which this extraordinary polygonal tower, with 24 faces, was included. It is now located on the grounds of the Archeology Museum.

Frescoes can still be seen in its inner walls, dating back to the XV century, when the tower was transformed into a chapel inside the monastery.
