Hannawa Falls Volunteer Fire Department had its origins during informal meetings in 1958 between local residents in the area. Formal meetings regarding the formation of the VFD took place throughout 1959 and 1960.

The Fire Department was incorporated on 20 July, 1960. First equipment was purchased used in 1960 and early 1961. Several used and jury-rigged vehicles followed until finally being able to purchase a new fire truck in 1971.

Today, the department features several state of the art firefighting vehicles and associated equipment.
