The bell tower was built in 1937 in the grounds of Loreto Convent in Claremont 8km southwest of it's present location.It was designed by Reginald Summerhayes and the preservation and relocation was overseen by his son Geoffrey working with the original plans and using the original bricks
The romanesque style bell tower stands 20.2 m high and was reconstructed in 1991 after the Convent site was sold in 1989
