Major Anderson was the Commanding Officer of "A" Company, 54th Kootenay Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Forces while on the Somme in World War I. On November 18th he was wounded in the leg while taking enemy trenches. After laying in a trench under shell fire for 24 hours, he was rescued by 8 scouts and eventually evacuated to a hospital in London.
His name appears on a list of officers returning to Canada, date unknown. Major Gilbert Anderson died in 1928 and this plaque in his memory was erected by the men of his company.

This church's corner stone was laid August 12, 1898 and the church was used for the first time Thursday December 15, 1898. It was not fully completed until 1899 and was consecrated May 27, 1900 by the Right Reverend, the Lord Bishop of New Westminster.
