A 7.5' high, larger-than-life size, bronze figure of a US World War II era soldier is dressed full battle uniform including unstrapped helmet, shirt, jacket, pants, belt with pockets, and combat boots. The soldier is standing on a bronze plinth which is placed on a granite base. He has a rifle on his back slung over his shoulder. His right hand is holding the sling. His left arm is held straight down.
The amazingly detailed sculpture was created by Windsor, VT native Lawrence Nowlan, Jr., and dedicated May 2002. According to the artist the soldier is “at the end of the day of a long patrol. His weapon is over his shoulder, it’s slung. He’s tired and he’s coming back to camp”.
Although the statue depicts a World War II soldier it is dedicated to all veterans from Windsor, VT. The granite base is inscribed:
TO HONOR WINDSOR RESIDENTS WHO SERVED IN ALL WARS - MAY 2002
