This building in northeast Salem, just north of downtown, is home to North Salem High School. Founded as Salem High School in 1906, the school was located at the site of the current Macy's building in downtown Salem until this building was opened in 1937. The building was a Public Works Administration project completed at a cost of approximately $1 million. When South Salem High School opened in 1954, the school's name was changed to North Salem High School.

The school mascot is the Vikings and school colors are red & black. With an annual enrollment over 2,000, the school's athletic programs are at the "big school" OSAA class 6A level as part of the Central Valley conference. Noted alumni include former Oregon Governor and U.S. Senator Mark Hatfield, Dune author Frank Herbert, and Boston Red Sox baseball player Jed Lowrie.
