The Charlestown Navy Yard is part of the Boston Historic National Park. This tablet on the outside of the Visitors Center reads:

"THE BATTLE OF BUNKER HILL
17 JUNE 1775
THIS TABLET MARKS THE
POINT WHERE THE BRITISH
REINFORCEMENTS LANDED."

The Battle of Bunker Hill took place nearby. Although the British were able to make the Colonists retreat, it took three assaults and the British suffered heavy losses. Read more about the Battle at (visit link)
