Originally this young deer was located in the middle of a small fountain. For many years a tradition at the nearby school Hobrovejens Skole was that the graduating students on the last day of school threw younger students and each other in the fountain water. This tradition is now only a story from the past.

In spring 2012, the fountain was filled with soil and planted. Today the young deer is standing on a small hill surrounded by plants.

The small, young deer is a characteristic motif for Hugo Liisberg. Liisberg’s art revolved around native Danish wildlife as well as animals in the Copenhagen Zoo. The movements and characteristic behaviour of the animals intrigued him, and in this case he has captured the balancing act of the young deer as it licks its hind leg.
