The O K CORRAL SITE, Fremont St. between 3rd and 4th Sts., indicated by a marker, was the scene of the Earp-Clanton clash in October, 1881. The Clanton cowboys had come into town for their usual amusement at the saloon and gambling halls. Ike Clanton was arrested by Virgil Earp, city marshal, on a charge of "disorderly conduct" and fined $50. The following morning when the cowboys were leaving the corral to ride back to their Babacomari Mountain ranch, they were attacked by the Earps and Doc Holliday. Ike Clanton and Tom McLowery were unarmed, Sheriff Behan having taken their guns away from them the preceding day, to assure peace. Billy Clanton and Tom and Frank McLowery were killed; Ike Clanton escaped. Virgil Earp was wounded in the leg. The Earps and Holliday gave themselves up and were tried behind closed doors by Justice of the Peace Spicer, who exonerated them on the grounds "of having acted as peace officers in performance of their duty."- Arizona: A State Guide, Tombstone section, pg. 250.
The site is marked by a couple different markers. To access the commercial site (admission charged) go around the block to Allen Street. The gunfight actually was mostly not in the corral but in lot to west of the corral and in Fremont Street itself. Fremont Street is the main street passing through Tombstone also known as Arizona Hwy 80.
