The Mellen House, located at 16 Washington St is a farm house probably built during the first half of the 18th century as a hall and parlor house. It is 2 1/2 story wood structure with clapboard siding. It is built on a granite foundation.

The house dates back to when Washington St was called Birch Alley. The original owners are unknown, however the Mellen Family did live there in the 1820's. Later owners included the Wheeler family. This house is linked to Mendon during the 1700-1775, which is characterized by an agricultural settlement.
