20- George St is an altered gable block Greek Revival house. It is 1 1/2 stories built on a stone foundation. It is sheathed in aluminum siding. This house was probably built by John Allen in the 1820's. Mr Allen was a farmer. By 1870 T. Ellis lived here. An 1831 map indicates that house orginally was a corner lot with a road running to George St from Milford St. This road no longer exists after 1900. By 1900 Mary J White, dressmaker, owned this home. This house is connected to the period 1780-1830, when Mendon experienced moderate population growth. Farming was the prominent activity.
