This is the third building erected for this church. Some bricks are from a former church. Present church was consecrated May 27, 1855 by Joseph Blount Chesire 1814-1899. He received his schooling at Edenton Academy and Episcopal School for Boys at Raleigh, now known as St. Marys.Chesire served as rector for 35 years, resigning in 1869 because of poor health. Fire damaged interior in 1884 and a new church was built in nearby Scotland Neck.
