The strip seems to feature businesses that are or were closed.
When Zippy visited this place it was called Andy's Diner. Andy's was a train car style restaurant and there are still markings on the railroad cars from Andy's Diner. Since that time, the restaurant became the Colorado Boiler and now it's a known as the Orient Express, a Chinese restaurant. The rotating sign in a rectangle is still the signature of the restaurant, but now has Chinese characters, saying (presumably) Orient Express, instead of Andy's Diner. Above the rectangle can still be seen the original train engine pulling a car that says SideTrack Room and the distinctive Arrow pointing to the restaurant hasn't changed either.
The first pane of this strip features the Mecca Motel from Colorado Springs and the second pane of this strip features the MGM Cleaners from Royal Oak, Michigan.
In this strip, the sign of Andy's Diner is featured in only the third pane.
Zippy discusses with his friend Claude, why everything is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, forever. This is the way Zippy would like things, but as Claude points out "Life ain't an online catalog, pardner… and it doesn't always offer same-day DHL delivery."
