The stretch of road known as "The Malahat" is a 20 km section of the Trans-Canada Highway perched on the side of a mountain ridge. It climbs over 300 m to its summit at 352 m, which, combined with it's location on the side of the ridge, leads to stunning views to the east and south. This viewpoint, also known as "Split Rock", looks east over Saanich Inlet. Also visible are Saltspring Island to the northeast, the Saanich Peninsula, Mount Newton in John Dean Provincial Park, and the San Juan Islands and Mount Baker of Washington in the distance. The Mill Bay - Brentwood Bay ferry can sometimes be seen crossing far below.

Other than the view, the viewpoint doesn't consist of much else. The only other features are a few garbage cans and a map that identifies geographical features.
