This bear chair is located at the Grandfather tree souvenir stand in Garberville, California. it is carved from a redwood tree trunk. Between the bear's legs is a wooden container labeled "Honny", which forms the base of the chair when one sits.
In this strip Zippy notes that William Steig didn't get an animation deal until he was 92. William Steig was a cartoonist who was the creator of Shrek the animated film star. This is probably a reference to cartoonist Bill Griggith's pining for a Zippy animation deal with Hollywood. in the final strip Zippy says there's still hope, but the bear chair refutes "Unless I eat you."
