You guessed it! This Presbyterian Church is smack in the middle of Highland country, rich with its Scottish and Gaelic influence and heritage.
The church is named after itsfirst minister, the Reverend Daniel Gordon, the Free Church minister from 1853 until 1871. After being locked out of the nearby frame church on the 17th Concession of Indian Lands by the local congegation of the Church of Scotland because of the split between the Free Church and the Church of Scotland, his congregation decided to erect a new brick church at St. Elmo. It was completed in 1864.
The popular novelist Ralph Connor, was Rev. Gordon's son, and his memories of St. Elmo inspired his novels of Glengarry.
