A look at Civil War Corinth
Through the eyes of wartime artists and photographers.
The Moss House, one of Corinth's popular hotels, stood across this intersection. When the Union army occupied Corinth in 1862, the Provost Marshal established headquarters in the building. Army officers who served as provost marshal had the responsibility for policing and maintaining order amond both military and cililian occupants of the town.
The hotel served as a hospital after the Battles of Shiloh and Corinth. Unlike many of Corinth's buildings, the Moss House survived the war and was later known as the Pannell House, a city landmark for many years.
Corinth is part of the Civil War Discovery Trail.
