This sculpture of Neptune is located on a pedestal attached to a ramp leading into the Børsen, Copenhagen's old stock exchange.
It depicts the muscular god naked but for a carefully placed flowing piece of cloth and holding his iconic tripod with his right hand close to his shoulder as he looks to the left. He stands on a rocky ledge. It would appear to be made of stone...and curiously, seems to have been patched up somehow in the groin area. There is no indication at the site as to the artist or date, but this Wikipedia page has an additional photo (
visit link) and informs us that the artist is Johan Christoph Petzold (5 October 1708 - 15 September 1762).
Neptune, known as Poseiden by the Greeks, was not only the God of the Sea..but of freshwater as well. Wikipedia (

"He is the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon. In the Greek-influenced tradition, Neptune was the brother of Jupiter and Pluto, each of them presiding over the realms of Heaven, our earthly world and the Underworld, respectively.
Depictions of Neptune in Roman mosaics, especially those of North Africa, are influenced by Hellenistic conventions. Neptune was likely associated with fresh water springs before the sea. Like Poseidon, Neptune was worshipped by the Romans also as a god of horses, under the name Neptunus Equester, a patron of horse-racing."
