This Grade II listed lodge is C16th or earlier, with later additions and alterations. It is timber framed and plastered with exposed framework to the five left-hand original gables and the C20th right-hand gabled cross-wing. Of two storeys with all the gables jettied, there is a timbered and plastered range between them.

The roofs are red, plain tiled with three octagonal red brick chimney stacks. The left-most is a double flue with barley twist between moulded octagonal bases and cappings, that in the centre is a double flue of plain octagonal form between moulded bases and cappings, and the right-hand stack is a repeat of this.

This is a private house set in the grounds of Braxted Park on the western outskirts of Tiptree. The parish of Great Braxted abuts that of Tiptree to which some land was ceeded when that parish was formed in the C19th. Prior to that Great Braxted boasted an abbey of some importance in the C12th to C14th. The house can be seen through the iron gates in the park wall at the head of the drive. The co-ords are given for these gates reached by walking along the public footpath from the parking area just off the Tiptree to Rivenhall road. Park at N 51° 48.010 E 000° 42.190 and walk 260m in a north-easterly direction alongside the park wall. It is possible to walk the whole length of the wall, some 4.5ml, but some of it is along the busy road to the west of the park.

Some useless information:- The selling price for the lodge in August 2002 was £1,930,000.
