The COURTHOUSE, on N. Court St. between W. Pennington and W. Alameda Sts., is a three-story building completed in 1928. Designed in the Spanish Colonial style, the structure has two wings forming a U-shaped composition around a forecourt. A graceful arcade with slender Renaissance columns forms a pleasing colonnade across the front of the court and along the sides of the flanking wings. A decorative green-tiled central dome rises above the elaborately encrusted west entrance pavilion. A deep archway leads through the pavilion to the rear courtyard. The building was designed by Roy Place, architect..- Arizona: A State Guide, Tucson section, pg. 259-260.
The old Pima County Courthouse continues to serve as a courthouse house for lower level court cases and continues to house various county offices even though other courthouse and county office buildings have been built. The courthouse and the adjacent park are very enjoyable to walk around and explore. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
