Marvel was a mining town operated by the Roden Coal Company from the early 1900's until the 1950's. This tower supplied water to the town. Water was pumped to the tower from a stream over a mile away. The 50,000 gallon storage tank is set 60 feet high on a concrete tower that has an unusual crenelated top, with a ladder that angles awkwardly out from one of the upper windows. There was a nearby 500,000 gallon reservoir that provided water for the mine. There was an explosion at the mine on October 22, 1916 that killed 18 miners. Easy parking at the base of the tower. No bathrooms, fuel, or other conveniences nearby.
