This waterfall occurs due to an excess of water arriving at the beginning of the wooden flume that carries water to the desired man-made water uses. If too much water were allowed to enter the flume, it would slosh over the sides and make a wet muddy mess in places where that might not be desirable. Here any excess water is diverted and flows over the waterfall and then down the natural channel.
