The PIONEER MEMORIAL, at the park s Sixth Ave. entrance, is a semicircular onyx seat with an Arizona marble backrest carved in relief. It was sculptured by Beniamino Bufano and dedicated in 1920 to Arizona s pioneers.. - Arizona: A State Guide, Tucson section, pg. 259.
The memorial is as described in the Guide. The memorial was located in front of the Carnegie Library when the Guide was written, the library now serves as the Tucson Children's Museum.
In front of the curved bench with the relief sculptures is a circular stone mosaic with the following inscription:
To The Memory Of Those Pioneers Of Arizona Who Have Given Their Lives
That We Might Live In Peace And Unafraid In This Sunkissed Borderland
