Guthrie was first settled after the Land Run of 1889, and served as the Territorial and then, first State Capital of Oklahoma. The home at 415 E. Cleveland Avenue was constructed in 1907, the year Oklahoma became a state. It is located a few blocks northeast of the downtown area.

This home is one of hundreds which are part of the Guthrie Historic District (Page 18, Block 46, Lots 4-6 on the District nomination form).

This hitching post is concrete and currently painted gray. It stands about three feet high and is about one foot wide. The top has rounded graduations. A heavy iron U-bolt is imbedded into the post. This hitching post likely dates from the construction of the home in 1907.
