Monument to commemorate the two battles between Tories and Patriots in southeastern North Carolina. McPhauls Mill was fought on September 1, 1781 and was a Tory victory. Raft Swamp was fought about 4 miles southeast on October 15, 1781 and was a Patriot victory.

Monument was unveiled April 30, 1933

Near here took place the skirmish of
McPhaul's Mill and that of Little Raft Swamp
This memorial is erected to those valiant
pioneers who laid the foundations for the
culture and progress of our Cape Fear region."
