In the scale of this solar system model, each mile represents one astronomical unit (AU), the distance from the sun to the earth. In this model, the distant sun is located at the Northern Maine Museum of Science on the campus of the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Here along US Route 1 (N Road), Neptune is more than 29 miles from the sun. Neptune has been in place since 2003 but still looks fine. The sign is getting tired.
