The first church at Dunvegan was built of cedar logs in 1840. In 1871, the cornerstone of the present stone church was laid. A bell was put up in the tower in 1884.
The Kenyon Church retained its Highland Scottish characteristics longer than most other Canadian congregations: proficiency in Gaelic was a requirement for their ministers until 1934. A precentor with a tuning fork led the congregation in song until permission was given to bring in an organ in 1913.
The Highland communion Season was celebrated in Dunvegan well into the 20th century when twice a year the congregation would meet for four days of worship.
