In the village of Moutiers Mauxfaits is this beautiful church of granite "late" Romanic style the construction of which dates 1170.
Of rectangular plan with a central nave and two side naves, but no transept. The semicircular, at present visible apse, date of 1840 and the bell tower of 1867.
At first church holy Michel, it was dedicated to saint Jacques in 1451 on decision of Pope Eugène IV. Let us note that we are on one of the secondary paths leading to Compostelle (scallop in the blazon of the municipality).
Plundered by troops Huguenots in 1568 and 1622, the church was transformed into warehouse after the Revolution then opened again in the cult in 1803.

Dans le village de Moutiers les Mauxfaits se trouve cette belle église de style roman "tardif" en granit dont la construction date de 1170.
De plan rectangulaire avec une nef centrale et deux nefs latérales, mais pas de transept. L’abside semi-circulaire, actuellement visible, date de 1840 et le clocher de 1867.
D'abord église Saint Michel, elle fut consacrée à Saint Jacques en 1451 sur décision du Pape Eugène IV . Notons que nous sommes sur l’un des chemins secondaires menant à Compostelle (coquille Saint Jacques dans le blason de la commune).
Pillée par des troupes huguenotes en 1568 et 1622, l’église fut transformée en entrepôt après la Révolution puis ré-ouverte au culte en 1803.
L'église fut classée Monument Historique le 14 octobre 1908.
