The beach is named after a large expanse of flatrock which lies on its northern edge. It is accessed via a flight of steps which pass through a grove of eucalyptus. The houses that sit above the beach are mainly holiday homes or rentals. I visited on a stormy winter's day so had it all to myself. In the warmer months it would be more popular however still relatively private because of the 60 odd steps & the easily accessible crescent shaped Washerwomans Beach to the south.

There are no facilities so you need to bring everything with you. As well the beach is not serviced by Surf Life Savers so ensure you can recognise rips & supervise your children. There are rocks & gutters in the surf so this beach is best utilised by those wishing to catch the sun or catch a fish. The beach is a bird protection zone so dogs are prohibited.

A walk on the flatrock at low tide will reveal fossils & shell fish.
