Six soldiers carry the body of a comrade in this stone memorial. In an arc behind the sculpture by Würzburg sculptor Fried Heuler are stone plaques. The plaques carry the names of the hundreds of men from Würzburg who died in World War I. The names are listed in alphabetical order by year of the war. Beside the first plaque are the words: "The sons of the city." The memorial is well back from the road and is under a canopy of trees.
