This mechanical device was used to crack corn or break the hardened kernels into smaller chunks. The cracked corn was then used to feed farm animals. The cracking aided digestion, particularly by birds. It may also have been used in creating mash for the fermenting and distillation of 'moonshine'.
The device was powered by a belt that transferred power from the power take-off wheel of a tractor.
