This drill was used to automatically plant a single row of a crop. From the size of the feed can, it appears to be for planting a larger seed, such as corn. The chisel at the front opened up a furrow and the seeds were automatically metered at the proper spacing down the feed tube and into the furrow. The drag and wide wheel at the rear closed up the furrow and compacted the soil over the seeds.
