White marble fountain erected in 1895 as a gift from Prince Regent Luitpold to his native town in response to Würzburg's having erected the Franconia Fountain to honor Luitpold the previous year. Base is white Carrara marble. Atop the fountain is a bronze statue of the Saint Kilian.
In 1943 the Nazis sold the bronze statue to be melted. In 1948 the statue was discovered at a scrap dealer in Hamburg and the city bought the figure back. In 1949 the statue of Kilian was once again placed atop the fountain. Since then the fountain has been restored several times, the latest being in 2009 at a cost of 1.4 million euros.
