Because of an escarpment deemed too steep for vehicles to negotiate, there is a break between both ends of Empress Avenue. A stairway, consisting of 75 steps was built to allow residents to reach both sections of the avenue. The stairway, made of metal, is very sturdy and excellently maintained.
