This is a Bagnall locomotive built in 1938 as works number 2588 with original boiler no. 62211. It had a new boiler fitted from Bagnalls in 1957 (hence the 4269 number on the rear of the cab, which was the Bagnall order number).
The locomotive has a 12" cylinder and 18" stroke design.
This locomotive first saw service with Stewards & Lloyds Ltd, Vereeniging, before going to USCO (Union Steel Corporation) in Vereeniging.
Strangely, there is also a Neilson Reid works plate (no. 6083) fitted on the right hand side of the cab. This plate is off a 7C Locomotive 1063 which was scrapped in 1962 at East London.
