The lighthouse was one of two identical cast iron towers manufactured in England to a design by C.Y. O'Connor, the engineer responsible for the construction of Fremantle Harbour,The lighthouses arrived in 1902 but this one was not installed until 1903 after waiting for the rock to settle, it has a height of 15m and a range of 18km, when first lit on July 20th 1903 the white occulating light was too powerful and was subsequently changed to a fixed green light
