Though they're not the original brewers, the
Nelson Brewing Company is ensconced in the 100 year old brewery building built by the defunct brewing company of the same name. The original Nelson Brewing Company folded in the late 1905s/early 1960s, leaving the building empty. In 1992 a group of local business people started the new Nelson Brewing Company. It is a specialty brewer, producing hand crafted beers.
Examples include the following, lifted from
Nelson Brewery Tour:
Favorites include the British-inspired, and surprisingly chocolaty, Nelson After Dark; the silky, and wondrously rich Blackheart Oatmeal Stout (which the crew notes is so much more than a breakfast drink); and seasonal best-seller, sure to get the blood pumping when the temperature drops, the Faceplant Winter Ale. New from the taps this season, Harvest Moon Organic Hemp Ale hit the shelves in April (this German kolsch-style ale comes complete with a Kootenay twist, thanks to the incorporation of locally-produced hemp). In keeping with each of their offerings, all brews crafted by this family-run operation are organic, ensuring a clean, crisp flavor.
