Friedrich Karl von Schönborn, the Prince Bishop of Würzburg placed the statues on the north side of the Alte Mainbrücke after the death of the prvious Prince Bishop. Von Schönborn placed his family coat of arms, his monogramed crest, or his coat of arms on the base of those statues.
Th statue the coat of arms is on, is the at the east end of the bridge and is of Pepin the Short, who was the father of Charlemagne.
