Le phare Swallowtail attire l’œil lorsqu’on approche de l’île Grand Manan à bord du traversier. La superbe vue panoramique du littoral et le vieux phare en bois font de l’endroit un cadre parfait pour les photographes, les artistes et les touristes.
Ce phare a été construit en 1860 et rénové en 1980. Toujours actif, il a conservé sa tour originale – une des rares tours de phare en bois encore en existence au Canada – et a été déclaré site du patrimoine par le Bureau d’examen des édifices fédéraux du patrimoine.
Le phare a été batit a la suite du naufrage du vaisseau Lord Asburton qui a fait 21 décès en 1857.
D'une hauteur de 13,7 m (45 pieds) il culmine a 31,4M (100 pieds)au dessus des eaux
Il est de forme inhabituelle avec ces 8 côtes dans la partie inférieur et 7 côtes dans la partie suppérieur.
On accède au phare par une passerelle et un étroit sentier d’une longueur de 100 mètres.

Route 1, sortie 60. Se rendre à Blacks Harbour et prendre le traversier pour l'île Grand Manan. À la sortie du traversier, tourner à droite, puis à gauche sur le chemin Old Airport, et à droite sur le chemin Lighthouse, jusqu'au bout.

The Swallowtail Light catches the eye when approaching Grand Manan Island on the ferry. The panoramic view of the coastline and the old wooden lighthouse make the place a perfect setting for photographers, artists and tourists.
This lighthouse was built in 1860 and renovated in 1980. Always active, it has retained its original tower - one of the few towers wooden lighthouse still in existence in Canada - and was declared a heritage site by the Review Board of the Federal Heritage Buildings.
The lighthouse was batit a result of the sinking of the ship Asburton Lord who made 21 deaths in 1857.
At a height of 13.7 m (45 feet) it peaked at 31.4 M (100 feet) above the water
It is an unusual shape with these eight ribs in the lower part and seven ribs in the supperior part.
Access to the lighthouse by a bridge and a narrow path with a length of 100 meters.
Driving Directions:
Route 1, Exit 60. Getting to Blacks Harbour and take the ferry to Grand Manan Island. Coming off the ferry, turn right, then left on Old Airport Road, and right on Lighthouse Road to the end.
