Fort Huachuca opened in 1877. The original cemetery for the post was near the corner of Grierson and Mizner Avenues. There were sixteen burials in that cemetery prior to the current cemetery opening May 18, 1883. The earlier graves were moved to the new cemetery. Other graves moved to the cemetery were the remains of 76 unknowns from the cemetery at old Camp Carlos, this was done in 1928 to make way for the Coolidge Dam. The cemetery closed in May 1948 but reopened in September 1967 and continues as an active cemetery. The cemetery has over 3,000 graves many are for unknowns. The cemetery is well maintained.
To access Fort Huachuca all adults must show a government issued id and the vehicle must have proof of insurance and registration.
