Front Street Beach is just about where one would guess - along Front Street on the north end of downtown. Possibly the best known single entity in Kaslo is the "Moyie" paddle wheeler (
qv), on display along the waterfront. The beach begins just to the east of the visitor centre, housed in a replica of the Kaslo Railway Station, which is just east of the Moyie.
The beach is fairly deep (about 40 feet in places to 70 to 80 feet in other places) and runs for about one long block to the east. It consists of fairly coarse sand, but is nice to walk on barefoot.
Kootenay Lake is a wide (really wide), long (104 km. long) spot on the Kootenay River, which is fed by glaciers and snowmelt through the year, so don't expect the water to get balmy in the summer.
There's insufficient room for volleyball, etc. here, but in the middle of summer it is a very popular place for sunbathing, having a cooling dip, and just hanging out being really, really lazy.
